Nous sommes aux prises avec un projet industriel d\u2019usine \u00e0 Pellets torr\u00e9fi\u00e9s (biomasse) qui cherche \u00e0 s\u2019implanter sur les petites communes rurales de Bugeat et Viam, dans le d\u00e9partement de la Corr\u00e8ze, dans un confin vallon\u00e9 de landes, de tourbi\u00e8res et de for\u00eats.<\/p>\n Ce projet, port\u00e9 par un aventurier de l\u2019\u00e9conomie \u00e0 courte vue*1 comme il y en a tant, a trouv\u00e9 le soutien poussif d\u2019un petit politicien local, pr\u00e9sident de Conseil G\u00e9n\u00e9ral, connu pour sa longue coop\u00e9ration avec les lobbys de l\u2019agro-industrie*2. Un avis favorable suite \u00e0 l\u2019enqu\u00eate publique vient donc d\u2019\u00eatre prononc\u00e9 malgr\u00e9 de tr\u00e8s nombreuses et argument\u00e9es contributions contre le projet. Il semble bien que les promoteurs du projet soient d\u00e9termin\u00e9s \u00e0 passer en force. C\u2019est une nouvelle phase de la lutte qui s\u2019ouvre \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent et c\u2019est le moment pour nous de faire appel \u00e0 vous.<\/p>\n Ce projet d\u2019usine pr\u00e9tend introduire en France un syst\u00e8me de torr\u00e9faction de pellets exp\u00e9riment\u00e9 aux Etats-unis qui vise \u00e0 produire un substitut \u201crenouvelable\u201d au charbon pour les grandes centrales thermiques fran\u00e7aises. En fait, une nouvelle et \u00e9difiante op\u00e9ration de \u201cGreen Washing\u201d pour sauver le syst\u00e8me \u00e9nergivore qui nous a conduit au d\u00e9sastre pr\u00e9sent en le repeignant de vert. L\u2019ampleur du projet et les quantit\u00e9s astronomiques de mati\u00e8re v\u00e9g\u00e9tale brute qu\u2019il chercherait \u00e0 transformer en charbon, jusqu\u2019aux racines des arbres abattus, laisse entrevoir une d\u00e9sertification \u00e0 grande vitesse des fragiles sols de notre Montagne.<\/p>\n Au cours des derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies, un syst\u00e8me d\u2019exploitation industrielle de for\u00eats de r\u00e9sineux -plant\u00e9es au d\u00e9but du si\u00e8cle- a d\u00e9j\u00e0 mis une partie des sols pauvres de notre r\u00e9gion \u00e0 rude \u00e9preuve: sur-m\u00e9canisation, coupes rases syst\u00e9matiques, d\u00e9souchages, engrais, insecticides, lessivages des sols \u00e0 nu par les pluies abondantes. Alors que la catastrophe des ces m\u00e9thodes d\u2019exploitation brutales commence \u00e0 crever les yeux, ce projet d\u2019usine intervient comme une prime \u00e0 la poursuite de cette logique suicidaire.<\/p>\n Le d\u00e9veloppement de l\u2019\u00e9nergie \u201cbiomasse\u201d, ici comme ailleurs, cherche \u00e0 mettre \u201cau travail\u201d la for\u00eat dans son ensemble et c\u2019est aussi aux belles for\u00eats de feuillus du plateau que ce monstre glouton veut commencer \u00e0 s\u2019attaquer. Our region is being threatened with the construction of a torrefied biomass plant. This large-scale industrial project is being planned in the small rural towns of Bugeat and Viam, in the Corr\u00e8ze region, an area that is a natural refuge with valleys, moors and forests.<\/p>\n The development plans are being lead by a venture capitalist*1 who stumbled upon a great opportunity to make a quick buck when he made friends with the president of the Corr\u00e8ze city council*2, who is known for his ties with the agro-industrial lobbies. Despite numerous concerns and well-argued opposition to the plan, the public inquiry has announced its support for the project. This makes it clear that they intend to carry out their plans of development by force. Thus we have entered a new phase of our struggle and the time has come to call for your support.<\/p>\n The goal of this project is to introduce a new torrefaction method that was developed in the US. The product produced will be marketable as \u2018renewable energy\u2019 and it will be burned in French coal plants. In short, this is an obvious attempt at a \u2018green washing\u2019 campaign that seeks to save the same energy devouring system that has pushed us to the brink of collapse. The magnitude of the project and the astronomical quantities of raw plant material that it would transform into charcoal (including the roots of the felled trees) would quickly make a desert of our fragile mountain soils.<\/p>\n In recent decades, these soils have already suffered from the industrial exploitation of resinous wood plantations. Heavy machinery, systematic clear-cutting, rootstock removal, pesticides and heavy rains have all taken a huge toll on our environment. It is undeniable that this process of exploiting our natural resources is disastrous. The pellet plant would serve as a bonus for this suicidal logic.<\/p>\n The development of \u2018biomass\u2019 energy seeks to put the forest as a whole to work. This voracious beast is on the verge of attacking the plateau\u2019s beautiful hardwood forests as well. These mixed forests regrew on the land in an unregulated manner after they were abandoned during the rural exodus. These lands are now being targeted by developers who want to control, calculate and profit from these wild regions.<\/p>\n For us, the struggle is about more than mere resource management or the preservation of our particular lifestyle. This is a fight to affirm a different way of relating to the world. We humans are but a small fraction of that world. Like many of you, we have decided to turn our back on our species’ The various struggles that you all have lead all over the globe in recent years have been a great inspiration for us. Today we would like to contribute to a necessary effort of coordinating on at least a European scale. There is much to share and to learn about facing off against these projects. Even though each project seems different, they are all expressions of the same old extractivist logic. F\u00fcr uns ist dies der Moment, uns an euch zu wenden.<\/p>\n Das Industrieprojekt gibt an, in Frankreich ein System der \u201eR\u00f6stung\u201c von Pellets einzuf\u00fchren, das in den USA bereits erprobt worden sei und das darauf ziele, f\u00fcr die gro\u00dfen W\u00e4rmekraftwerke einen \u201eerneuerbaren\u201c Ersatz herzustellen. Tats\u00e4chlich handelt es sich um eine neue lehrreiche Operation in Sachen \u201eGreen Washing\u201c, einzig gemacht, das stromfressende System zu retten, das uns in die gegenw\u00e4rtige Katastrophe gef\u00fchrt hat. Das schiere Ausma\u00df des Projekts, die astronomischen Menge pflanzlicher Materie, die es zu Kohle machen will \u2013 bis hin zu den Wurzeln der gef\u00e4llten B\u00e4ume \u2013 l\u00e4sst die ultimative Verw\u00fcstung der fragilen B\u00f6den unserer Berge absehbar werden.<\/p>\n Im Lauf der letzten Jahrzehnte hat die industrielle Nutzung des Beginn des Jahrhundert gepflanzten Nadelwalds die kargen B\u00f6den unserer Region bereits arg strapaziert: Einsatz schwerster Maschinen, systematischer Kahlschlag, Stumpfrodung, D\u00fcnger, Insektizide, Auswaschungen der nackten B\u00f6den durch schwere Regenf\u00e4lle. Sticht schon das Desaster dieser brutalen Methoden des Raubbaus mehr und mehr ins Auge, so setzt das Fabrikvorhaben dieser suizid\u00e4ren Logik die Krone auf. F\u00fcr uns, die wir euch hier schreiben, geht es dabei nicht einfach um ein Problem der Nutzung von Resourcen oder den Schutz unseres speziellen Lebensstils, sondern um den Kampf f\u00fcr ein anderes Verh\u00e4ltnis zu einer Welt, in der wir als Gattung nur einen kleinen Bruchteil ausmachen. Wie viele von euch haben wir uns entschieden, uns vom frenetischen Rennen unserer Spezies abzuwenden, das nur in den Abgrund f\u00fchrt. Der Untergang jener Form von Humanit\u00e4t ist nicht der unsere. Als Terrestrier3, Erdbewohner*innen inmitten der Vielfalt der Erdbewohner*innen wollen wir vielmehr verteidigen, was das Leben erm\u00f6glicht.
